Neuro-rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery

Neuro-rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery are subspecialty disciplines pertaining to the surgical and medical management of disorders of the anterior skull base (front part of the base of the skull). This includes the management of sinonasal tumors, autoimmune disorders of the nasal cavity, infections of the nasal cavity that extend into the orbit (cavity at the base of the skull and brain), as well as other disorders. While most of these conditions when managed surgically can be managed endoscopically, some require an open or a combined approach. Patients with these conditions often complain of symptoms of nasal obstruction (blockage of air flow), nasal discharge, congestion, post-nasal drip, facial pressure and discomfort, loss of sense of smell, and frequent nose bleeds.

Sinonasal tumors and Cancer

Sinonasal tumors and cancers are rare entities that occur in the nasal cavity or in the paranasal sinus. There are many types of sinonasal cancer that routinely involve the skull base of the nasal cavity, some benign and some malignant. These can include squamous cell carcinoma, salivary gland tumors, sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma, sarcomas, olfactory neuroblastomas, and lymphomas. Management of these entities can be benefitted by a multi-disciplinary team like ours that has extensive experience.
