Laryngology
Laryngology is the subspecialty of ENT related to disorders and conditions of the voice and swallowing. Patients often seeking a laryngologist typically complain of hoarseness, changes in their voice, difficulty swallowing, and shortness of breath resulting from subglottic stenosis. These conditions are usually managed using a combination of medical therapy, speech language pathology, and surgery. Common ailments where laryngology may be appropriate include vocal cord nodules, vocal cord cysts, leukoplakia, vocal cord palsy, vocal cord polyps and Reinke’s edema, spasmodic dysphonia, muscle tension dysphonia, vocal tremor, vocal cord tumors, chronic cough, dysphagia, subglottic stenosis, and laryngeal webs. Our team runs the multi-disciplinary Voice and Swallow Clinic with our Speech Language Pathology team, where patients can be assessed by all these disciplines in the same visit.
