Brain Aneurysms
A brain aneurysm occurs when a blood vessel has a weak spot, forming a balloon that could rupture and cause brain bleeding.
Diagnosis and Symptoms:
- A ruptured aneurysm causes brain bleeding (see hemorrhagic stroke).
- Many patients with brain aneurysms may not have symptoms.
- Diagnosis involves blood vessel imaging such as magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), computed tomography angiography (CTA), and diagnostic cerebral angiography.
Treatment:
- Some aneurysms may require treatment to prevent rupture and bleeding.
- Treatment options include endovascular procedures (catheter-based) or surgical interventions. Your physician will discuss treatment options.
- Lifestyle Modifications: Maintaining normal blood pressure, avoiding smoking, practicing good sleep hygiene, following a healthy diet, and regular exercise can reduce the risk of aneurysm rupture.
